With five active wildfires in Colorado totaling close to 100,000 acres and fire conditions extreme, you’d think everyone in the state would be observing precautions. But there’s always a nut out there somewhere, isn’t there? Just 15 miles from the Springer fire, deputies are seeking an arsonist, one who set 10 fires in 3 days, 7 of them within a 2-hour period. All the fires were reported and quickly controlled by area residents, but it’s incredibly depressing to think that with thousands of people out of their homes and thousands of firefighters risking their lives to fight these fires, there’s one among us getting his kicks by starting more fires.
Update, Saturday, June 23: Twenty arson fires reportedly set in the last 5 days.
They caught at least one of those idiots last summer here – in the middle of all the smoke and wild fires…..as I recall one of them was actually a volunteer firefighter previously. (almost enough to make you want to secure him in a spot so he can get a really really good view of the fire and totally experience it.)
Hang in there.
This idiot better hope deputies catch him before residents do …
I don’t know about you PT, but sometimes I think maybe there ARE cases where a public flogging is called for!
A mere flogging would be too good for this guy. I just read another story that said he’s believed to be a local resident because he moves so fast (possibly via ATV) and knows the area so well. What kind of person would do that!?
I don’t know PT, but whatever kind he is, it needs to be removed from the gene pool!
Last year for the 4th of July, the city closed our bosque (the nature area all along the Rio Grande) and only one minor fire caused by a couple of stupid kids and fireworks. I hope they do the same this year.
Fireworks bans are so widely ignored around here, it’s a wonder the neighborhood is still standing. I don’t want to think about what could happen this year.
I don’t either. We had a small fire in the bosque which started on Wednesday. It’s contained and may be out now. I hope so.
